This is a good product! If you are attempting a THRU HIKE, I would seriously recommend saving money and purchasing the model below this for much cheaper. Or perhaps a ZOLEO. You will not use GPS/CHECK INS or weather checks/texts as much as you would expect.

Very handy device but found the User Interface clunky and confusing to use. Thankfully I'm technically savvy and was able to get the weather forecast function to work after 4 resets and tweaking some settings - about 4 hours of effort. FYI, recommend going with Multi-GNSS from the start.

I bought the Garmin InReach Mini 2 for an extended canoeing trip. It functioned well and was helpful in route finding and getting weather updates. The Garmin explore app on a synched device is fairly easy to use. Three issues preculded a higher rating: 1) The menu seems unnecessarily complicated.

I haveI used mine for a reasonable amount of time now and have a few issues with it. First, I hike in the Sierra Nevadas. I like rivers. Rivers tend to be in the bottom of canyons in the Sierras. You don't often see a river on a mountain top. And, canyons are what this unit does not do well.
