I wanted a garmin for the added training insights over a wahoo, plus needed the larger screen size to aid reading prompts during a ride.
I was nervous of returning to a touch screen garmin after previous poor experience (screen locking up at the first sign of rain).

Updated from a 1030 that was an early generation to the new 1040. New graphics, text, mapping are much improved. I am not a techie, but more of a general user of tech, so appreciate the ease of set up, downloading of routes and accessing features.

Great features and lots of data (if that’s your thing). Nice, big screen with clear mapping. A huge upgrade from my old Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt and totally justified purchase at the reduced price. Would be 5 stars if it were slightly more intuitive to use and setup, and had OS maps for gravel/MTB.

I updated my 4 year old Edge 1030 with the 1040 Solar. I'm super happy with the how easy the upgrade went. And the additional features in the 1040 are exciting. It'll be a while before I will be able to test battery life, but I'm excited to plan some long rides to test it.

Nice screen size, good battery life and great stats but map could be better. Easy to fit to my MTB and gravel bike with the included mounts. Having been using Komoot on my iPhone for navigation I'll look at using Komoot on the Garmin to provide cleaer guidance.

I thought a lot about upgrading to the Garmin Edge 1040 from my 520, but I am very glad I did. The new features are brilliant, particularly the options on the data screens, the additional metrics, and the awesome battery life.
I am giving it a fall test on a Sportive tomorrow.

I've a Garmin watch so set up and linking with the app was simple, therefore some familiarity in set up. Battery life is excellent even without battery saving, integration with di2 and an HRM is simple. I've made use of the app and Strava to download routes and the navigation has worked very well.

Like any new toy it takes while to learn what’s where. I love mine and would not want to be without it. I’ve configured it with “ride with gps”. It’s a perfect app for it. I’ve used mine in the rain with no problems and as for the battery life, it goes on for days.

Moving from the smaller 530, the main advantage is the bigger screen & touchscreen. If you have the money, go for it. You wond regret it :-)

This is a replacement for my 13 year old Garmin 800. So lots of new features I haven't explored yet. Looks well made. I like the larger size, without being bulky. I am looking forward to using the long battery life
