Following advancements in quantum computing known as "singularity" and after years of war, transnational corporations have supplanted governments as the world's key geopolitical structures. Nations have dissolved, militaries have disbanded, and the world is split in two: those who submit to the tyranny of the corporation and those who are free but starving in the former nations.

After falling in with a syndicate of international mercenaries, Percy and two fellow former US Special Forces soldiers learn to navigate this post-singularity world and face uneven odds against the unconquerable enemy force at the helm. Recently outfitted with an electronic prosthetic hand thanks to a combat injury, Percy begins to see his dreams of retirement fade as he starts putting the pieces together. Is it the global technocracy or something much more powerful that threatens free society? Even if he somehow finds a weakness to exploit, is the rest of the world willing to sacrifice safety for freedom?
